Family holiday at home!

We didn't have a family holiday to Butlins this year, but during the usual week John stayed with Carolyn for a few days and arranged the traditional meal for the whole family on Dad's birthday at The Victoria in Peckham.

He also went on a tour of the Houses of Parliament with Lorraine and Ollie.


Amanda came over with the kids and stayed with me for a few days.  We went to London Zoo for the day.  The children did really well to keep going all day until 5 pm - although we were all exhausted at the end and got a taxi all the way home!

 

John and Lorraine went to the Tower of London.


Everyone had fun in the pool at Carolyn's - the weather was so hot!


John started the week by going over to Majorca to visit Amanda for a few days.

(click here for short, 2-page version pdf!) Doesn’t time fly! It seems no time at all since I was composing last year’s letter. What a gorgeous summer we had - the heatwave seemed to go on for ever and I spent many a happy hour sitting in the garden - as did Suki! As expected, Mary (Mike’s mum) passed away on 13th December last year - nearly 5 weeks after she first took to her bed and stopped eating.  Everyone at Tracey House was so good with her, caring for her and keeping her comfortable. They also took care of everything at the end which was very helpful. We were fortunate to be able to have the funeral before Christmas so it wasn’t hanging over until the new year. Mary had written down her wishes for hymns and readings and even a potted history for the eulogy! It was very easy to organise, even from a distance. Jayne transforms our London residence

Saturday 1st October. Mike went out ringing all day on the South and West quarter peal week which he and Linda had been busy organising for weeks. Jayne and I went to B&Q and bought lots of paint plus a clothes horse and some bits and pieces. We made a start on the kitchen rubbing down the wood and painting the chimney breast and the bottom cabinet doors with the first coat of paint. We were both pretty whacked after that and decided to call it a day. I took Suki for a walk and then we went up to get Lebanese mezzes for supper. Mike came in later and we had supper together and then another early night. The Chimney Breast as it used to look Jayne applies the paint Sunday 2nd October.  Got up early to walk Suki and then get to 8 o'clock service. Mike was playing the organ so I took him a cup of tea before leaving. He was happy not to have breakfast - just as well as he couldn't get into the kitchen! March Catch Up

On 1 st went to Carolyn’s for a roast dinner for her birthday.  Went for a walk afterwards and got soaking wet.  Ollie shouted “come on Michael” to Mike as he ran down the road and we were all a bit taken aback that he should address his Uncle Mike in this way, until he explained that Mike was Michelangelo and he was Donatella (ninja turtles). Mike played lots of board games with Ollie when we got back – including Chess which was pretty impressive. Lunching with Bishops!  On 2 nd went to the service of inauguration of Sister Jennifer as Mother Superior at the convent.  Mike played the organ for some of the service.  There was lunch afterwards and the one of the Bishops came and joined us at our table and even went to the buffet to get Mike some dessert. Sister Barbara gave me a huge box of threads, material and framecraft pieces, and also said I could keep the frame she had given me with the Snow Wolf I am finishing for her.  She has given up all cross stitch now because of h
