Monday 21st July - Butlins

Dinner at Turners
Felt better although still had blinding headache mainly at the back. Slept heavily again. Got up at 8. Mike had shower.  I printed off paperwork and did a couple of emails then had shower and got breakfast. Up side of being unwell is that I was back to 10:12 so decided to use Myfitnesspal again. Walked suki and finished packing.  Svetla arrived just before we left for Butlins so she was able to meet Bethany.  We left about 11.40 and had a good run down except for hold up on m25 and arrived at butlins at 13.30.  Bethany slept all the way. We went for a coffee and a bite to eat and then went to the gate to wait for the others.  Reception was open early so Lorraine checked and our chalets were ready so she was able to book us in.  Then the others arrived together in the same taxi having been on the same train. So we got our bags from the car and took everything to the chalets.  They are very clean and new looking which is nice.  John and Amanda came with me to sainsbury to do a shop.  Ended up going to Littlehampton 5 miles away because I went the wrong way out of the camp and the traffic queue was so bad going back that we decided it was better to go on.  The others came to the car with the pram to help carry everything back to the chalets.  By then swimming pool was shut so I took Ollie to the Pavilion and he managed to get on a few rides before they shut at 6. By then John had joined us and we played with Ollie in the puppet theatre on a draught board on the floor until we had enough.  We went back to chalet to get football and then all went out to eat at Turners which turned out to be very good.  I still wasn't feeling very hungry and has macaroni cheese starter as a main course which I couldn't finish.  I also ate Carolyn's green beans and cauliflower which were delicious and crunchy but would have been better without the butter!  Played football outside with Ollie while the others had coffee and dessert then we all went to the Pavilion for a while before going back to the chalet.  I had an ovaltine and watched telly for a bit with John and Carolyn and went to bed at 10.30.  Couldn't get to sleep though.  Too hot and noisy.  After trying for a couple of hours I updated my blog notes at 1 am!

What a gorgeous summer we had - the heatwave seemed to go on for ever and I spent many a happy hour sitting in the garden - as did Suki! As expected, Mary (Mike’s mum) passed away on 13th December last year - nearly 5 weeks after she first took to her bed and stopped eating.  Everyone at Tracey House was so good with her, caring for her and keeping her comfortable. They also took care of everything at the end which was very helpful. We were fortunate to be able to have the funeral before Christmas so it wasn’t hanging over until the new year. Mary had written down her wishes for hymns and readings and even a potted history for the eulogy! It was very easy to organise, even from a distance. She was well known at the church and there was a good attendance - I was particularly glad that her 90-year old friend, who had been her bridesmaid, was ab

Saturday 1 February

Mike went off ringing QPs and I went to Denham to do 7-mile Colne Valley circular walk I had stumbled across when researching New Year's Day canal walk.  Walking by 9.10.  Took me four and a half hours because went slightly wrong in the woods and then decided to research possible short cut for future, and also because unable to get under railway bridge at Ickenham due to floods so had to do long detour.  Lovely morning - clear and sunny and not too cold although the wind was somewhat chill.  Underfoot was extremely muddy and often deep in water - luckily boots were up to it.  Had blisters under both feet by the end.  Also found I had burrs sticking to my ear muffs - but only after I had been talking to people whilst completely unaware of this. Got home and changed bedding and did washing.  Then had lovely hot shower and got into comfies for the evening.  Did cross stitch and watched England being beaten by France at Rugby in the last few minutes.  Had pate from Son Ferrer market fo

Roving Ringers Reunion Weekend 21-22 Feb

Lee and Emma picked up Suki on Friday afternoon - which left us clear on Saturday to just get up and go.  We were going to listen to the Everest book on the way up to Huntingdon - but we couldn't get the phone audio to work through the bluetooth on the car, even though the phone was shown as paired.  So we listened to an interesting programme on the Bach Magnificat instead.  We set off a bit late but got to the first tower at Godmanchester about 10.20 am and Hal immediately came down and carried Mike up.  I tried to ring there but they were too heavy for me and the ropes were new and springy so I didn't carry on.  The next tower was St Ives - which was a ground floor ring with an awful lot of rope, so I didn't ring there but stayed around in the body of the church chatting.  I walked back to the town before the session finished and had a happy time browsing round the shops and farmers marker.  I got myself some nail varnish - another first shock horror!!  At the market I bo
